Western Gaels U14 continued their unbeaten run in Division 1 with a hard fought victory over Clonguish on a score line of 6-9 to 3-6. Playing on a Clonbony pitch which stood up well to the recent heavy rain, Clonguish were swiftly out of the blocks with the first point, and with the next two shots rattling the frame of the goal, the vista of a first league defeat loomed large. However, Western Gaels shook themselves from their torpor to gradually exert control on the game, and some excellent scoring left them ahead at the break by 7 points.
It was very much a case of Déjà vu at the beginning of the second half as some sloppy hand-passing let Clonguish in for a goal and a point, to leave just a kick of the ball between the teams. It was at this stage that Western Gaels showed their class to raise their game by several levels, and some excellent team scores were contributed by several different players. With contributions from all 22 players who had game time, this was a real team performance, and one which bodes well for the future. Thanks to Clonguish for a sporting game played in the right manner. The next U14 outing is against Clonbroney in Division 3 on Friday night." Declan Conlon
