Western Gaels 4-17 Clonguish Og 3-9

What a final we had this evening in Pearse Park! It was end to end stuff with an exchange of points in the opening minutes, then Breen Casey popped up with an opening goal for the Gaels!  15 Minutes in and we seemed to be in the driving seat, up by 6 points when Clonguish hit a purple patch and scored 2-2 unanswered.  However the Gaels kept their composure and a swift move which ended up with an Evan Chalmers goal swung the lead back in our favour and a couple of points tagged on before the break, saw the Gaels go in 5 up at the break, 2-11 to 2-06

The second half was another close affair and in fairness, another great display of football, from both sides.  Hard an all as Clonguish tried to eat into the lead, and they got close on a number of occasions, the Gaels dug deep and fought hard when they needed the most. Some robust defending and enterprsing scoring up from from Daire McManus and Rory Howlin always kept the opposition at bay.  Then a brace of goals, the 2nd from Chalmers again in the final minute, ensured less of a naol biting finish that was envisaged for much of the game!

Congrats to PJ, Jimmy, Seadna, Ciaran & Padraig, Joint Captains Bryn Peters & Rory Howlin and all the players from 1-26, on a fantastic win and great victory.  Hard luck to a valiant Clonguish Team, who on another day, could easily have been victorious!  Onwards to the A Championship Shield for both teams and good luck to both!
