Grattan Seniors Our Senior team where home to Sean Connollys on Saturday just gone in the Div 2 third Round. Unfortunately, the game went away from us (Grattan OG 0-6 to Sean Connolly’s 0-15) but we played well so there is plenty to be excited about this season. As this is our first year playing at Senior level we decided to incorporate the social side of Ladies Gaelic for our young squad to encourage them to meet and mix with the other senior teams in the County. We have a cup of tea and refreshments for both teams, officials, and supporters of both sides at all our home games. Special thanks to our invaluable Tea Ladies for looking after this initiative which is working so well. Next match Bank Holiday Monday when we are away to Ballymore Ladies in Div.2. Support is always appreciated. Senior Ladies training continues - Tuesday and Friday nights. Hard luck to Longford Ladies Minor team with our 6 Grattan Ladies who were narrowly defeated by Carlow in their Leinster Semi-Final final. Best of luck to Longford U16's especially Clodagh and Katie who play their Leinster Semi-Final next weekend. We wish Caoimhe Lohan a speedy recovery from an ankle injury and we hear Aoife Gerety is making very good progress having been out of action for the past few weeks. We look forward to having both players back in action for us soon again. Grattan Gaels U8s – First blitz of the season Tuesday last in Keenagh. It’s a credit to the size of our club now that we had two teams to play teams for keenagh and Carrickedmond. All boys and girls gave a very good effort and enjoyed what for many was their very first team game against another club. Western Gaels U14 experienced disappointment with defeat in the Feile Shield final against Ardagh on Easter Saturday, with a late goal resulting in a 2 point defeat, in what was a tight and compelling game. Ardagh were again the opposition 3 days later in the division 2 league, and again disappointment was our lot, with another late goal, again proving the difference. Round 4 of the league took place this Tuesday against Wolfe Tones, with no result available at the time of going to press. Western Gaels U16's – On Thursday we faced a very strong and determined Granard/Ballymore side in their Division 1 clash in Dunbeggan. The home side put up a very brave effort but we're unable to overcome their opponents. Next round is this Thursday (27th April) where they face Slashers in Michael Fay Park - throw in 7pm. U10's – Our first blitz of the season and to kick off the season it was in Pearse Park, with the GAA Go Games initiative (every child gets a go). Teams from all over Longford turned up and had lots of fun – a big thank you to the team at Pearse Park for their help on the night. Under 10s at Pearse Park On Monday 24th the Minors faced Northern Gaels in the Div 2 special league final in Dunbeggan but at going to print we have no result - full report to follow next week!
