U16s: We played our final game in the championship at home in Dunbeggan Park on Saturday last v Drumlish knowing a well would give us a slim chance of progressing to the next stage, alas but it wasn’t to be as we just came up short in the end. It was a very entertaining contest with both teams needing the points, a huge effort was put in by all the squad on the day especially when it looked like Drumlish would run away with it, in the end we came up short by 3 points Grattan Gaels 4-7 Drumlish 3-13. The U16C turned out to be a very competitive championship with 6 games for each team been played which was a first in a long time at this age grade, we probably left points after us in our first two games which didn’t help and along with a couple of injuries who knows what might have been. As our journey has come to an end we as a management we would sincerely like to thank a superb bunch of players for all their efforts throughout a season that we will remember for different reasons for a long time to come, to the parents for their huge support once again, to the Minor Club Executive for the outstanding work they continue to do year in year out. SENIOR CLUB We played our first game in the Div 3 league on Sunday last at home in Dunbeggan where we took on our good rivals Legan , played in ideal conditions and with a good crowd in attendance where the club made every effort to have all the Covid Safety Regulations in place on the day , we lead at half time 0-9 to 0-4 our first half scores from the John Hand 0-4 ( 2F ) who was in excellent form throughout , Rory Howlin with 3 excellent points from play along with Reuben Murray with 2pts from play , Legan came back into it more in the second half but in the end we were able to hold out in what was a well deserved and hard fought victory , Final Score Grattan Óg 0-16 Legan 0-11, our second half scores coming from John Hand 0- 2 , James Finn 0- 1 , James Moran 0-1 , Karl Murray 0-1, Reuben Murray 0-2 ( 1 from a brilliant sideline take ) , next up we play Killoe next Saturday evening in Killoe at 7pm, well done to all for a great effort and also to the management who have a tough task of trying to pick a team with such big numbers , the main thing is we all stick together. Team: Conor Gallagher, Padraig Dennigan, John Balfe, Gary Hewitt, David Trappe, Stephen Farrell, Niall Nerney, Karl Murray, James Moran, Emmet Clarke, John Hand, Reuben Murray, Rory Howlin, Kevin Jones, Gary Gilchrist Subs Used: Jimmy Ruske, Sean Campbell, Jack Finn, James Finn. U16s: We played our first game in the U16 C championship on Wednesday last 22nd July away to Kenagh , played in tough conditions we unfortunately lost out in the end , Darragh Campbell in goals could not be faulted his kick outs were excellent , out fullback line of Willie Duignan & Kielan Ruske did well under extreme pressure at times , our half back line of Ryan Casey & Stephen Oates were solid , our midfield pairing of Matthew Hawes & Harry Mulvihill worked well together and came up with good scores between them, our half forward line of Gary Hand & Eoin Kinlan were in great form throughout we were very unlucky to lose Eoin through injury early in the second half , our full forward line of Daniel Gallagher & Niall Hawes did very well , we introduced John McHugh , Willie Stokes , Peter Farrell & Conor McHugh at different stages throughout the game and they all did their utmost to get us a win which wasn’t to be , we went into the game without a couple of our panel through injuries and holidays , 11 a side is a tricky game to play especially with the running involved on a full pitch , things certainly didn’t go our way on the evening but we learn from it and move on , on another day with a full panel the result would have been different We have still five games left to play so it’s still all to play for , well done to all for the huge effort on the evening and thanks once again for the great support , Final Score Grattan Gaels 5-6 Kenagh 8-10.
