On the field the minors & juveniles are currently approaching their break for the upcoming exams and we would like to take this opportunity to wish any of our players involved in the state examinations the very best of luck with them in the coming weeks!
Having secured the Div 2 Special Minor League Title a number of weeks ago the u18's started their league campaign with a hard fought draw against Dromard in their 1st game. The visitors got off to a great start and a heafty lead at half time but credit to the lads who dug in deep to grind out a result in a sunny Clonbony! At going to print the result of the 3rd round encounter with Ardagh/Drumlish is not known but details will follow next week.
Our Juvinilles finished their league campaign with an away trip to Clonguish last weekend. The home side proved too strong on the night and attentions now turn to the championship which is due to start mid-July! Well done to all involved in the league campaign.
U10s are looking forward to hosting its U10 blitz on May 24th at 7 PM, where we will have the clubs of Southern Gaels, Ballymahon-Forgney and Granard in attendance. We expect to have near 10 teams in total, which will make it an exciting and bustling event, with the good weather as promised.
U8s - Hosted our first blitz of the season, a big thank you for everyone who helped out, it was a wonderful day.
Our Senior team where home to Sean Connollys on Saturday just gone in the Div 2 third Round. Unfortunately, the game went away from us (Grattan OG 0-6 to Sean Connolly’s 0-15) but we played well so there is plenty to be excited about this season.

Senior Ladies - Well done to our Senior Ladies who had a good win in their Div. 2 home game against Rathcline with a score of 7.8 -4.9, this follows a win last week against Mullinalaghta in Div. 2 also so great performance all round.
As this is our first year playing at Senior level we decided to incorporate the social side of Ladies Gaelic for our young squad to encourage them to meet and mix with the other senior teams in the County. We have a cup of tea and refreshments for both teams, officials, and supporters of both sides at all our home games. Special thanks to our invaluable Tea Ladies for looking after this initiative which is working so well. Next match Bank Holiday Monday when we are away to Ballymore Ladies in Div.2. Support is always appreciated.
Senior Ladies training continues - Tuesday and Friday nights.
U12 Ladies - Our under 12s had their first win of the season last Monday eve away to Drumlish, a big well done team.

Hard luck to Longford Ladies Minor team with our 6 Grattan Ladies who were narrowly defeated by Carlow in their Leinster Semi-Final final. Best of luck to Longford U16's especially Clodagh and Katie who play their Leinster Semi-Final next weekend.
We wish Caoimhe Lohan a speedy recovery from an ankle injury and we hear Aoife Gerety is making very good progress having been out of action for the past few weeks. We look forward to having both players back in action for us soon again.
U8s – First blitz of the season Tuesday last in Keenagh. It’s a credit to the size of our club now that we had two teams to play teams for keenagh and Carrickedmond. All boys and girls gave a very good effort and enjoyed what for many was their very first team game against another club.
Western Gaels U14 experienced disappointment with defeat in the Feile Shield final against Ardagh on Easter Saturday, with a late goal resulting in a 2 point defeat, in what was a tight and compelling game. Ardagh were again the opposition 3 days later in the division 2 league, and again disappointment was our lot, with another late goal, again proving the difference. Round 4 of the league took place this Tuesday against Wolfe Tones, with no result available at the time of going to press.
Western Gaels U16's – On Thursday we faced a very strong and determined Granard/Ballymore side in their Division 1 clash in Dunbeggan. The home side put up a very brave effort but we're unable to overcome their opponents. Next round is this Thursday (27th April) where they face Slashers in Michael Fay Park - throw in 7pm.
U10's – Our first blitz of the season and to kick off the season it was in Pearse Park, with the GAA Go Games initiative (every child gets a go). Teams from all over Longford turned up and had lots of fun – a big thank you to the team at Pearse Park for their help on the night.

U18 - Congratulations to the Western Gaels U18's who continued their winning ways in Div 2 of the special league with a hard-fought victory over Ardagh/Drumlish in Dunbeggan last Friday evening. Poor weather conditions hampered the game somewhat but the home side battled on to grind out a victory! The final round game takes place this Sunday with the visit of Northern Gaels to Clonbony, with a victory securing a final spot in the competition. Best of luck to Mick, Mark and all the lads!
U16's - start their Div 1 League Campaign with the visit of Killoe to Dunbeggan this Thursday evening. Best of luck to the team and management in their game and indeed the coming season ahead!
U14 - Western Gaels U14 qualified for the Feile Shield Final with a victory over Dromard in Dunbeggan last Saturday. In what was a perfect example of a game of two halves due to a strong wind, Western Gaels went in for the half time oranges with a significant lead, but only raised a single white flag in the second half, to run out victors by 5 points in a nervy finish. There was some excellent football played, especially in the first half, and good contributions from all the players. We now look forward to the Feile Shield final, and the chance to represent Longford at the National Finals.
U13 - Western Gaels U13s played their Leinster final on Saturday last 25th March in the brilliant surroundings of the Abbottstown National Games Development Centre where they came up against a very strong and well organised Seneschalstown from County Meath. We played in beautiful sunshine and in good spirit this game took on a life of its own at different stages, the going was tough at times especially playing on a bigger pitch but we went in at the break full of confidence for the second half after getting back into the game just before halftime. At the start of the second half Seneschalstown superiority came to fore. Try and try as we did to compete for every ball in the second half Seneschalstown were getting the better breaks and eventually ran out comfortable winners, but the one thing we never did was give up no matter what the score was so great credit goes to all the players involved on the day. Overall the day was very enjoyable and the competition itself was a good workout for this team as they look forward to the Longford U13 competition later in the year. Well done to all the players who played and to all the support we received in this competition.

Great turnout and everyone is excited to get started.
And we're off
U13s - Western Gaels played their first game in the Leinster U13 on Saturday 28th at home in Clonbony against Colmcille of Longford. With Daniel Gallagher in goals, Ryan Casey & Darragh Campbell in the fullback line, Matthew Hawes in the halfback line, Eoin Kinlan & Rasheed Yeobah in midfield and Gary Hand in the full forward. It was great to see this number of players from the Grattan Gaels club in the first half and throughout the game. We started well with an early goal on the board but Colmcille, to their credit, put it up to us at different stages during the game and goals were a plenty throughout this game.
We would go onto score 8 in total, it was a great first half effort from all the players were we went in at half time with a six point lead, this gave us an opportunity to use more of our bench for the second half and it was great to see more of the Grattan Gael contingent making their debut for the Western Gaels ( Shannon Gaels/Grattan Gaels) amalgamation including Beau O’ Connor, Dan Devlin & Gavin Nulty all came on in the second half where they all played their part in a great victory. Gary Hand was in great scoring form bagging 2 well taken goals along with Dan Devlin who bagged 3. In the end we just got over the line by a one point victory 8-4 to 7-6 after a great fight back by Colmcille , well done to all players and management team of Alan Fayne ( Shannon Gaels) and Tommy Hawes ( Grattan Gaels ) on a great victory.
Starting fifteen: Daniel Gallagher( Grattan Gaels), Kevin Farrell ( Shannon Gaels), Ryan Casey (Grattan Gaels ), Darragh Campbell ( Grattan Gaels), Aaron Kenny ( Shannon Gaels), Cormac Casey ( Shannon Gaels), Matthew Hawes ( Grattan Gaels), Eoin Kinlan ( Grattan Gaels), Rasheed Yeobah ( Grattan Gaels ), Cillian Cox ( Shannon Gaels), Jamie Hagan ( Shannon Gaels), Niall Chawke ( Shannon Gaels), Dylan Hanley ( Shannon Gaels), Calum Gordon ( Shannon Gaels), Gary Hand ( Grattan Gaels), subs used: Dan Devlin ( Grattan Gaels ), Beau O’ Connor ( Grattan Gaels), Gavin Nulty ( Grattan Gaels), Conor Lyons ( Shannon Gaels ), Luke Dowd ( Shannon Gaels ), Kieran O’ Dowd ( Shannon Gaels), James Killain (Shannon Gaels), Daire Cox ( Shannon Gaels).
