GRATTAN ÓG GAA
SENIOR CLUB We played Colmcille at home in Dunbeggan Park in our final game in the the Div. 3 league on Saturday last 19th Sept , this game was a lot more competitive than the previous week against a very well organised Colmcille side, there forwards were well on top in the opening stages with some well taken scores. We went in at the break with it all to do in the second half Grattan Óg 0-04 Colmcille 1-10 our scores coming from John Hand 0-03 (2fs); Reuben Murray 0-01 (1f), A great effort in the second half where we kept Colmcille to just a goal , if we had converted some of the chances we created it would have been a different outcome, once noticeable feature of the second half was two superbly taken points from play by Gerry Victory that were worth the entrance fee alone. Well done to all on a gallant effort where in the end we just came up short. We can take a lot of positivies form this game heading into our championship quarter final game. Our Junior championship quarter final took place in a sun drenched Michael Moran Park on Sunday last 27th Sept where we came up against a very spirited Legan side, right from the off we stamped our authority on this game with some well taken points early on and after twenty minutes gone in the first half we were eight points ahead , with a great workethic all over the field it produced two well taken goals in the half , our first goal scored by Kevin Jones and our second by Reuben Murray who fired a rocket to the net after a surging run, we went in at halftime Grattan Óg 2-12 Legan 0-6, our first half scores coming from John Hand 0-6 ( 2fs ); Reuben Murray 1-2; Stephen Farrell 0-2; Rory Howlin 0-1; Emmet Clarke 0-1; Kevin Jones 1-0; all that was needed now heading into the second half was to keep our focus and continue the great workethic like the first half , Legan gradually tried to get back into the game but once we tagged on a few more scores we never looked back and in the end ran out confortable winners Grattan Óg 2-18 Legan 1-11 , two noticeable highlights of the game was a brilliant save at the death by Reuben Murray who had to deputise for our goalkeeper Conor Gallagher due to a black guard and also the outstanding display of point shooting by John Hand who scored 10 in total six from play and 4 from frees, our second half scores coming from John Hand 0-4 ( 2fs ); Rory Howlin 0-1; Wille John Mcdermott, well done to all on an outstanding effort and a superb win on a day where we scored 2-14 from play which is exceptional, thanks also to the great support on the day , we now drive on to the semi –final where we will meet Colmcille where at the time of writing no date has been set so check upcoming fixtures , also all our games can be followed on our Twitter page ( @grattanoggaa ).
