It was our 3rd U8 Indoor blitz in Kenagh last Thursday and we would like to sincerely thank Pat Tiernan for stepping into the breach. This weeks outing takes us to Newtownforbes with a 7.30 start on Thursday. U10 Our U10s played in a home blitz on wed last, St Vincent's, Clonguish, Southern Gaels, Kenagh/Moydow along with ourselves were in attendance. We played Kenagh/Moydow in the first game and came out on top with some great passages of play during the game. Up next we played Clonguish in what was a very entertaining game played with great commitment from both sides we just about came out on top, in our final game against Southern Gaels we played super football and came away with a good win. A special word of thanks must go to our chairman Mick Hand for coordinating all the home blitzes this season. U12 Congrats to our U12s on a great win last Thursday against Northern Gaels in the Divison 4 Shield. We would like to thank Northern Gaels for the sporting game and goals win games. A great performance and well done to all involved. Best of Luck to Declan and Niall and all the team this Saturday as they compete in the Division 3 Final U14 Next Tuesday the U14's play their final game in the A Championship shield and a win could ensure progress to the final so best of luck to all involved U14's
Congratulations to Grattan players and managers (PJ & Jimmy) who helped Western Gaels on winning the U14 final as played on Tue evening - Sept 8th in Pearse Park, with a final score of 4:17 to 3:9 A great achievement by Western Gaels against a strongly fancied Clonguish side. It is onwards now to the A-Championship Shield for both teams. U12's The final that had been set for last Thursday (10th) has been postponed, and the Longford GAA are looking at other arrangements U8's On Thursday last the U8's competed in their 2nd of 5 indoor blitzes this season. They had two teams represented that competed against two other Kenagh/Moydow teams in the Kenagh sports hall. This Thursday the same event will be hosted in the Clonguish sports hall. Fun day Last Monday in very pleasant sunshine an evening of fun sports was hosted in the Grattans facility for all ages from U10's downwards. it was great turnout, and thanks to all persons who helped organize the event. The children all got to enjoy a few treats at the end, and the club looks forward to seeing them all again next year. What a final we had this evening in Pearse Park! It was end to end stuff with an exchange of points in the opening minutes, then Breen Casey popped up with an opening goal for the Gaels! 15 Minutes in and we seemed to be in the driving seat, up by 6 points when Clonguish hit a purple patch and scored 2-2 unanswered. However the Gaels kept their composure and a swift move which ended up with an Evan Chalmers goal swung the lead back in our favour and a couple of points tagged on before the break, saw the Gaels go in 5 up at the break, 2-11 to 2-06 It is a busy week for the club as they compete in two finals & the underage fun day is being hosted on the Monday evening. U14's Our U14 Western Gaels team compete in the B Championship final against Clonguish in Pearse park on Tuesday (8th) evening. At the time of going to print, the result is not known. The lads have played well in the league all season, with some convincing victories along the way so best of luck to the players and the Grattan trainers of PJ Farrell & Jimmy Ruske for the final. U12's This Thursday (10th), our U12's play their 1st of two finals this month when they face Kenagh/Moydow in Pearse Park where they will contest the All Longford Division Final. Best of luck to mentors Niall Nerney & Declan Conlon and all the lads in what hopefully will be their 1st silverware of the year! Throw in is 7pm and we hope as many as possible can attend. U8's Fun day At the time of print, the fun day for the under age children will have been hosted on the Monday evening. Various fun events planned, and some treats for the children as appreciation for the time and commitment that they gave throughout the year. Many thanks as always Eddie |
