U18's Hard luck and commiserations to the minors on their narrowest of defeats to slashers in the A championship last Tuesday. A great second hand performance had a draw game with 10 minutes to go but slashers pushed on with two points to only one in reply from western Gaels, despite the hosts hitting the upright in the dying minutes. Well done to all involved and a Div 1 shield semi final is next for the lads.
The western Gaels U14 team play their B championship final this Saturday but at coming to print the full details were not available. Well done to Jimmy, PJ, Seadna, Pauraic and all the lads in this fantastic achievement!! Another great victory in the Div 3 encounter for our U12's in Monaduff V Drumlish on Thursday last should be just enough to ensure a final spot for the lads. Their last round of games takes place at home to Killoe in Dunbeggan on Friday at 7. Please support if you can! U8's On Wednesday last the U8's played their last blitz of the season in Argagh. Grattans had three teams take part, and each got to play three games each. It was a very enjoyable evening. Also, the indoor blitz is scheduled to kick-off in September, and further details to be provided in the following weeks. Thanks Eddie

U8s
This Wednesday 19th the U8s will travel to Ardagh to compete in an outdoor Blitz. Also, the indoor blitz is scheduled to kick-off in September, and further details to be provided in the following weeks. U10's Last Wednesday Grattans hosted the last blitz of the season, where the other clubs represented were Moydow/Kenagh, Ballymahon & Drumlish. It was a very pleasant evening, and the Grattan's U10's performed very well in all 3 matches they played. U18's Congrats to our Minor Team who fought out and earned a well deserved draw in the first round of the championship away to colmcille! They now take on slashers in a winner-takes-all showdown with winners progressing to the semi finals later in the month. The match is scheduled for Tuesday 18th and at going to print no result was available. Full details of results to follow in next weeks notes! Thanks Eddie U18s
Western Gaels Minors. At going to print we didn't have the result to hand for our minor's first outing in this years championship which took place on Tuesday evening at 7.45 in Colmcille. Full report to follow next week. The lads have their second game of the campaign in Clonbonny on Tuesday V Slashers. Best of luck to them and please come out to shout them on! U16's Our Juveniles lost their opening championship encounter in Clonbony on Saturday last to a strong Drumlish/Dromard amalgamation. We had a number of absentees but the 14 lads who played battled hard and despite being down 2-5 to 0-4 at HT, A spirited 2nd half saw us get back to within 2 points with some great goals from Oran Kenny (2) and Cronan Flood. A number of Shane Maguire frees kept us in touch until the visitors finished strongly with a couple of goals to put the game out of reach. Spirited performance and all attention turns to the next round V Clonguish in a couple of weeks with a must win game for the lads! U14's The U14's kept up their winning ways in the B Championship and continued their winning ways with an emphatic win over South Longford. While the home side in Dunbeggan didn't have it all their own way, and were pressed for long periods in the 2nd half, a purple patch which produced a number of goals sealed a comfortable win which had ensured a final spot. Final game in the group V Clonguish is next and then progression to the A Championship will ensue! Well done to all involved and best of luck going forward! U10's On this Wednesday 12th at 7 PM, Grattans looks forward to hosting a home blitz. Three other clubs are expected to be in attendance. It is the 2nd time that an U10's blitz was hosted at Grattans this year. Thanks to all those who took part in the workshop last week focused on
enhancing the training techniques for the under-age coaches. It was a very enjoyable work-group, and a range of new techniques were learned, that will now be rolled in in the following sessions. Thanks to Mick Hand for organizing it. U18s
Our Minor Team start their championship campaign v Colmcille in McGee Park next Tuesday and we would like to wish Willie John, John, Neil and Brendan and all the lads the very best of luck with it! Very well done to county minors James, Peter and Kevin who were part of the squad who lost narrowly to Derry in their All Ireland Championship QF on Saturday last. The team were a credit and did the whole county proud - fantastic achievement! U16 In the Division 2 Shield semi-final, our U16's had a comfortable win over Kenagh last Monday in McGann Park. The 11 aside format led to a wide open expansive game and scores were plentiful on the day, with Western Gaels winning by an 11 point margin. The team now progresses to the Shield Final where they'll meet Longford Slashers (date TBA). The 1st round championship match versus Dromard / Drumlish scheduled for last Thursday was cancelled. U14 At going to print we don't have the result to hand for our U14 Round 5 encounter with Longford South in Dunbeggan last Tuesday but a victory would surely seal a final spot for the team and progression to the A championship to follow. Will update next week with developments. U12 Our 12's had a strong win in the Shield semi Final clash against Kenagh/Moydow which took place in McGann Park last week A final now awaits. U8 Our U8s will have a Blitz on Wed 5th at 7 Pm in Killashee Eddie |
